The Changing of the Guard

There is a quiet mourning for the way things were.

We call it simpler.

Slower.

More real.

But perhaps it only feels that way because it is no longer ours to carry.

Every generation meets its own resistance.

Its own noise.

Its own uncertainty dressed up as progress.

This is not the end of something beautiful.

It is the changing of the guard.

Out with the old.

In with the new.

Not better.

Not worse.

Just different.

The old does not disappear, it settles into memory, into muscle, into foundation.

The new does not ask permission, it arrives, rearranges the room, and expects us to adapt.

Maybe what we are grieving is not simplicity.

Maybe we are grieving familiarity.

And yet ...

movement is proof of life.

Lyia, I just discovered these writings! It was meant to be as my brother-in-law passed away 2 hours prior to this discovery. How meaningful your thoughts are in this moment.
